Kelly Hrudey departs Sportsnet after 28 years of broadcasting
Longtime hockey broadcaster Kelly Hrudey is departing Sportsnet after his contract was not renewed. The 65-year-old, a former NHL goaltender, has been a staple of 'Hockey Night in Canada' for 28 years since retiring from professional play in 1998.
Hrudey's departure affects regional broadcasts for the Calgary Flames, where he had served as a color commentator for 12 years. Reports indicate that Kevin Sawyer, a former NHL player and current TSN broadcaster, will replace Hrudey on the Flames' regional television broadcasts.
The changes follow a period of transition for Calgary Flames coverage, which has seen recent shifts in play-by-play and hosting personnel. Additionally, Rogers Communications has relinquished the Flames' radio broadcast rights following the discontinuation of Sportsnet 960.
