Kelly Hrudey Parts Ways with Sportsnet After 30‑Year Broadcast Career

Former NHL goaltender and longtime broadcaster Kelly Hrudey announced that Sportsnet will not renew his contract for the upcoming NHL season, ending his roughly three‑decade tenure with the network. In a video posted to his personal X account, Hrudey thanked viewers and colleagues, saying, “Big changes in my life… I thank you, the viewer, who might have hated me or loved me.”

His departure comes as Rogers‑owned Sportsnet restructures its national NHL coverage, ending its partnership with CBC and the traditional Hockey Night in Canada broadcast. The network has also signed a 12‑year sublicensing deal with Amazon Prime Video that gives the streaming service exclusive rights to Wednesday games and select early‑round Stanley Cup playoff matches.
