Kelly Key reveals abdominal plicature surgery to correct diastasis

Brazilian singer Kelly Key, 43, has shared that she underwent abdominal muscle plicature, a surgical technique to correct diastasis, following her second pregnancy. The singer emphasized the importance of transparency regarding aesthetic procedures, stating it would be unfair to attribute her physical results solely to diet and exercise without mentioning surgical intervention.

Abdominal plicature, often referred to as “abdominal sewing,” involves a surgeon bringing together and suturing the fascia to create an internal support structure. The procedure aims to improve posture, provide better support for internal organs, and reduce abdominal volume. Medical experts note that while minor diastasis (3 to 4 centimeters) can often be managed through physiotherapy and exercise, surgery is typically recommended when the muscle separation exceeds 4 to 5 centimeters.

Recovery typically involves wearing a compression garment for 15 to 20 days and avoiding heavy lifting. Doctors generally advise against performing the procedure immediately after childbirth, suggesting it be done after the breastfeeding period to ensure the patient can avoid the physical demands of newborn care during recovery.
