Kelok 23 road trial begins in Yogyakarta

The Kelok 23 section of the Southern Cross Road (JJLS), connecting Bantul and Gunungkidul, has entered a traffic trial period running from September 14 to September 20, 2026. The trial is active between 06:00 and 18:00 WIB.

Authorities from the Yogyakarta Regional Police (Polda DIY) and the Department of Transportation (Dishub DIY) have issued warnings to motorists regarding safety. Due to the road's character, which features 23 curves and various inclines, drivers are urged to prioritize caution over speed and maintain high concentration, particularly at the kilometer 2500 mark.

Officials have strictly prohibited stopping or parking on the road shoulders, as these areas are prone to accidents and can disrupt traffic flow. To accommodate those wishing to view the scenery, the government has provided designated rest areas equipped with three observation decks. Local authorities are monitoring the trial to identify potential obstacles and improve infrastructure, such as street lighting, before the route is fully opened to the public.
