Kelowna community news: Hospital fundraising, election tools, and local charity events

Several community developments have occurred in Kelowna, British Columbia. The Kelowna General Hospital Foundation concluded its ‘Closer to Home Than You Think’ campaign, raising over $45 million to fund medical initiatives including gynecologic oncology, MRI technology, and emergency care improvements.

In an effort to boost local political engagement, software developer Giuseppe Gaspari created an online quiz designed to help residents align themselves with mayoral and council candidates for the 2026 municipal elections. The tool aims to simplify the research process and address low voter turnout, which was approximately 30 per cent in 2022.

Additionally, the Kelowna Fire Department held its annual open house to promote safety, specifically highlighting the risks associated with lithium-ion batteries. Meanwhile, Designer Shoe Warehouse partnered with Soles4Souls to host the first Okanagan ‘4EveryKid’ event, providing free shoes to 50 children from the Boys and Girls Club Okanagan.
