Kelowna Council approves Phoenix Medical Building development

The Kelowna City Council has voted unanimously to issue a development permit for the Phoenix Medical Building, a new facility to be constructed at 1896 Dayton St. by the Stober Group.

The proposed 6,410-square-meter building is intended primarily for commercial medical use, though the ground floor will include space for retail operations. The project site currently houses a single-storey building that previously served as Phoenix Medical Imaging.

As part of the development agreement, the Stober Group will reserve 10 meters of the southern portion of the property to facilitate the future extension of Sutherland Avenue. City staff noted that the extension, which aims to connect the Landmark District to Spall Road, may take over a decade to complete due to necessary property acquisitions. Additionally, the council approved a reduction in required parking stalls for the site, lowering the requirement from 60 to 30 based on the availability of nearby parking facilities.
