Kelowna Imposes Stage 2 Water Restrictions Amid Severe Drought

The City of Kelowna, British Columbia, has urged residents to conserve water as the peak watering season begins during an extreme drought that follows virtually no winter snowfall. Stage 1 and Stage 2 watering restrictions are already in effect, covering customers of the City Water Utility, the Glenmore‑Ellison Improvement District, and the District of Lake Country.

Stage 2 limits target agricultural users supplied with non‑potable water from the McCulloch Lake Reservoir. Utility Services Manager Rod MacLean said the reservoir is at 70 % of full capacity and users must reduce agricultural water use by 20 %. He warned that without significant cuts, the reservoir could empty before the season ends, leading to further water‑supply problems. The city advises all water customers to be cautious to avoid additional restrictions.
