Kelowna International Airport to hold full-scale emergency training

Kelowna International Airport (YLW) will conduct a full-scale live emergency exercise on October 27, between noon and 4 p.m. The simulation, located on the south end of the airfield, will involve smoke, flames from a training aircraft, and volunteers acting as injured passengers.

The exercise is designed to test the YLW Airport Emergency Plan, confirm coordination between mutual aid agencies, and clarify inter-agency roles for passenger support. It is conducted in accordance with Transport Canada’s requirements for certified airports under Canadian Aviation Regulations.

Participating organizations include YLW staff, the Kelowna Fire Department, Ellison and Lake Country Fire Departments, Transport Canada, RCMP, BC Emergency Health Services, Interior Health, Kelowna General Hospital, the BC Coroners Service, airline partners, KF Aerospace, and Commissionaires. Regular airport operations will continue throughout the training.
