Kelowna man to run 168km for Movember mental health fundraiser
Jed Banwell, a resident of Kelowna, plans to run 168 kilometres over a 24-hour period at the end of November to support the Movember Foundation. The fundraiser aims to raise $5,000 to support men’s health initiatives, including mental health, suicide prevention, prostate cancer, and testicular cancer awareness.
Banwell intends to complete 24 laps of a seven-kilometre outdoor track located downtown. He noted that the seven-kilometre distance reflects a statistic stating that, on average, seven men take their own lives each day in Canada and Australia.
Supported by Sprout Cafe, which will serve as the start and finish line, Banwell will be joined by others throughout the night. He expressed a desire to use the event to encourage open conversations and create safe spaces for men to discuss mental health.
