Kelowna mayoral candidate Ron Cannan will not request vote recount

Ron Cannan, a candidate in the 2026 Kelowna mayoral election, has decided not to request a recount of the voting results. Cannan narrowly lost the race to Tom Dyas by 969 votes.

The decision follows initial concerns raised by the Cannan campaign regarding the ballot counting process. These concerns included a three-and-a-half-hour delay in reporting results from the city’s 22 polling stations and claims that several registered scrutineers were prevented from receiving specific vote counts from election staff.

Campaign manager Shari Matvieshen confirmed the decision to forgo a recount after the campaign met with Michael Jud, the chief election officer for the City of Kelowna, to verify the results. While the campaign expressed dissatisfaction with the time taken to receive answers to their inquiries, the official results are expected to be released by October 21.
