Penticton and Kelowna prepare for upcoming municipal elections

In Penticton, voters will face a referendum during the October 17 municipal election regarding a 1912 land-use restriction on city-owned property at 325 Power Street. The current trust condition limits the site to athletics, park purposes, and exhibitions. Removing this restriction could allow for future developments, such as a hotel attached to the Penticton Trade and Convention Centre, though officials noted that no specific development proposal is currently active.

Meanwhile, in Kelowna, preparations for the October 17 municipal election are underway. Incumbent councillor Maxine DeHart has announced her bid for a fifth term. The city reports that approximately 60 individuals have picked up nomination packages for various roles, including mayor, council, and school trustee. Additionally, the City of Kelowna is reminding residents of the availability of mail-in ballots for those unable to vote in person.
