Development updates in Penticton and Kelowna
The Penticton Innovation District has announced a significant pivot in its development strategy. Originally planned to include up to 1,500 housing units, the project will now prioritize the conversion of existing factory and warehouse buildings into a commercial space named ‘Penticton Central’. This $5 million initial phase, led by the Stryke Group and Tien Sher, will focus on sports, recreation, and medical services, such as physiotherapy and outpatient care. While developers state that residential, hotel, and retail phases remain part of the long-term master plan, the current shift utilizes existing structures to allow for an earlier opening.
In Kelowna, architectural plans for a $101 million middle school have been submitted for development permit approval. Located at 1555 Burtch Rd, the three-storey facility is designed by Station One Architects to accommodate 800 students from Grades 6 to 8, along with staff and learning centre members. The project, tentatively named Burtch Middle School, includes specialized spaces such as science labs, an Indigenous room, and various collaborative and technical classrooms.
