British Columbia reports grizzly attack, missing hiker found, and bear spray incident

Several notable incidents have occurred in British Columbia involving wildlife and mountain safety. In the Shuswap area, a man sustained non-life-threatening injuries after being attacked by a grizzly bear while hiking with an off-leash dog near Sicamous. The BC Conservation Officer Service characterized the attack as defensive in nature and warned that bears are highly active due to drought conditions.

In Squamish, 43-year-old Stanislav Volo was found alive after being missing in the mountains for five days. Volo, who had set out to hike the Mount Habrich Loop, was located on the Indian Arm Forest Service Road and taken to a hospital with minor injuries following an extensive search involving drones, helicopters, and police dogs.

Additionally, in downtown Kelowna, three youths were arrested after allegedly using bear spray on an adult following a verbal dispute. The victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Kelowna RCMP reminded the public that bear spray is intended for wildlife encounters and that using it as a weapon can result in criminal charges.
