Kelowna Argus Apple Triathlon cancelled due to wildfires
The annual Argus Apple Triathlon in Kelowna, British Columbia, has been cancelled due to local wildfires and poor air quality. The event, which included the Age Group National Championships for standard and sprint distances, was originally scheduled for Sunday, August 9.
Organizers made the decision in consultation with stakeholders, medical providers, Triathlon Canada, and Triathlon BC. A primary factor in the cancellation was the desire to avoid diverting emergency resources away from the Quilpituk Creek wildfire.
Jonathan Arkle, president of the Apple Race Series Society, stated that while the decision was difficult, the health and safety of athletes, volunteers, and coaches remains the top priority. Registered participants will be notified regarding registration options in the coming days. The event is expected to return in 2027.
