Kelpen-Oler high-voltage substation upgraded to meet energy demand
The Kelpen-Oler high-voltage substation in Limburg has been renewed to meet increasing electricity demand and address aging infrastructure. The upgraded 150 kilovolt station, which facilitates the transition from TenneT’s high-voltage grid to Enexis’s medium-voltage grid, became operational in January 2026.
Further expansion is planned to increase capacity even more. Following the demolition of parts of the old station, four additional ‘fields’ will be constructed, with completion scheduled for 2027. TenneT and Enexis are collaborating on these upgrades to manage the growing energy needs in Central Limburg.
