Kelvin Banks Jr. to undergo surgery for ankle injury

New Orleans Saints left tackle Kelvin Banks Jr. is expected to be sidelined indefinitely following surgery for a severe high ankle sprain. The injury occurred during a Week 2 game against the Baltimore Ravens when Banks was rolled up from behind during a sack of quarterback Tyler Shough.

Banks, the No. 9 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, was carted off the field in the third quarter and unable to put weight on his left ankle. While initial reports suggested a recovery period of four to six weeks, updated information indicates the injury is severe enough to require surgery and a likely placement on injured reserve.

Asim Richards, a fourth-year offensive lineman with five career starts, is expected to take over the left tackle position for the Saints moving forward.
