Kelvin Chiu arrested for alleged sexual assault of student in San Jose

Kelvin Chiu, a 31-year-old athletic trainer at Archbishop Mitty High School in San Jose, has been arrested following allegations of sexual assault involving a 16-year-old student.

According to the San Jose Police Department, the incident occurred on October 8 while Chiu was reportedly treating the student for a sports-related injury. The victim alleged that Chiu sexually battered her and recorded the act on his mobile phone. Following the report, detectives from the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force executed search warrants at Chiu’s residence in Fremont and his vehicle. Investigators reported finding child sexual abuse material on his phone.

Chiu is currently held in the Santa Clara County Jail. He faces multiple charges, including sexual battery of a minor, the production and possession of child sexual abuse material, and annoying or molesting a minor. Police have indicated that because of Chiu’s position of trust, there may be additional victims. The Catholic Diocese of San Jose confirmed Chiu was a staff member for the school’s athletic training team and stated he has been suspended while the investigation continues.
