Kelvin Oppong sentenced to 15 years for defiling teenage girl

A Tarkwa Circuit Court has sentenced 20-year-old Kelvin Oppong to 15 years in prison for the defilement of a 14-year-old girl in Nsuaem, Western Region. Oppong, a galamsey operator, pleaded guilty to the charges.

The incident occurred on May 26, 2026, when the victim was selling food to raise money for her school fees. Oppong approached her under the pretext of purchasing goods and lured her to his residence by offering to provide change for a GH¢100 note. Once at his house, Oppong posed as a pastor, claiming he had received a troubling dream about the girl. He then administered a concoction that caused her to lose consciousness, after which he sexually assaulted her.

The victim reported the assault to her stepmother, leading to a police report and medical examination at Nsuaem Government Hospital, which confirmed the defilement. The case was prosecuted by Assistant Superintendent of Police Samuel Ahiabor before Her Honour Bernice Mensima Ackon.
