Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu criticizes media access blocks in Turkey
Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, leader of the Republican People's Party (CHP), has criticized the increasing frequency of access blocks on social media accounts, news sites, and digital platforms in Turkey. He stated that access blocking has ceased to be an exceptional legal measure and is instead being used as a censorship mechanism.
Kılıçdaroğlu specifically linked these restrictions to an ongoing fund scandal involving billions of liras. He argued that the censorship is being utilized to prevent journalists from investigating who benefited from the scandal and whether political or bureaucratic connections played a role. He noted that the issue affects all citizens, regardless of political affiliation, as it involves public funds.
Recent targets of these blocks include the news site T24, the newspaper Evrensel, Kısa Dalga, Amnesty International, the Ali İsmail Korkmaz Foundation, and the social media account of Professor Yaman Akdeniz.
