Kemdiktisaintek evaluates 2026 student admissions in South Sulawesi

The Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Kemdiktisaintek), alongside Commission X of the House of Representatives (DPR), conducted an evaluation of the 2026 Student Admissions Selection (SPMB) in South Sulawesi. During a working visit to Hasanuddin University in Makassar, officials reviewed capacity, re-registration rates, and admission pathways, including national achievement-based and test-based selections.

A significant finding highlighted by Director General of Higher Education Khairul Munadi is that approximately 40 percent of secondary school graduates do not proceed to higher education, with only 60 percent continuing their studies. This gap underscores challenges beyond mere selection processes, specifically regarding the ability of students from economically disadvantaged families to afford tuition and complete the re-registration process.

University leaders emphasized that financial support is a critical factor in a student's decision to enroll. While private universities play a vital role in expanding educational access across South Sulawesi, Southeast Sulawesi, and West Sulawesi, officials noted that student financing and operational support for universities require further discussion to ensure equitable access.
