Kemensos and PT Pos Indonesia plan new social assistance scheme

The Indonesian Ministry of Social Affairs (Kemensos) and PT Pos Indonesia are collaborating to develop a new scheme for distributing social assistance (bansos). The proposed plan involves the opening of collective accounts, known as 'burekol', directly for beneficiaries to streamline the disbursement process.

Social Affairs Minister Saifullah Yusuf stated that the new mechanism aims to make distribution more efficient and faster than current methods. He noted that PT Pos Indonesia is capable of designing a scheme without additional costs. To ensure the legality and stability of this new distribution method, Yusuf emphasized the need for a Presidential Regulation (Perpres) to serve as a formal legal framework.

PT Pos Indonesia President Director Muhammad Iskandar Kunaefi expressed readiness to support the program and will follow up on the technical formats and the necessary legal requirements. Currently, social assistance is distributed through two main channels: state-owned banks (Himbara) using payroll systems and social assistance cards, and PT Pos Indonesia via official invitation letters.
