Kemi Badenoch criticizes Nigel Farage over Clacton by-election

Conservative Party leader Kemi Badenoch has issued an open letter to the residents of Clacton ahead of the upcoming by-election on August 13. The election was triggered by the resignation of Nigel Farage as the local MP, a move he made amidst scrutiny regarding allegedly undeclared financial gifts totaling £5 million.

Badenoch criticized the decision to hold a by-election, describing it as "needless" and accusing Farage of using the constituency as a political tool to settle personal scrutiny. She stated, "You are not pawns in his game, there to provide him with a round of applause when he needs one." While the Conservatives are not fielding a candidate in this specific contest, Badenoch affirmed the party's commitment to Clacton and promised to return with a "serious candidate" during a full contest.

Nigel Farage, running for Reform UK, has framed the by-election as a choice between the people and the "political establishment." He denies any wrongdoing regarding the investigations. Polling suggests Farage is a strong favorite to retain the seat.
