While police have not officially confirmed the presence of a serial killer, a multidisciplinary task team—including the Murder and Robbery Unit and the Investigative Psychology Unit—has been established to determine if the deaths are linked to a single perpetrator or multiple suspects.

One suspect remains in custody in connection with the first victim found on July 15, 2026. The discovery of the fourth victim, identified as local runner Elizabeth Moselakgomo, has heightened community fear. President Cyril Ramaphosa has directed that the investigation be prioritized, stating that no stone will be left unturned to bring those responsible to justice.

Authorities have issued public warnings for women in the Kempton Park and Rhodesfield areas to avoid walking or running alone in isolated or secluded spaces and to remain vigilant.
