Ken Bau gas field discovered in Vietnam's Red River Basin

The Ken Bau gas field, located in Block 114 within the Red River Basin, has been identified as a significant energy resource for Vietnam. Discovered in 2020 through exploration by the Italian energy group Eni, the field is estimated to contain between 200 and 250 billion cubic meters of natural gas, including inert gas.

In addition to the gas reserves, initial assessments indicate the area may hold between 400 and 500 million barrels of oil. The field is situated approximately 65 km off the coast of Quang Tri province. Petrovietnam has identified Ken Bau, alongside other major sources like Lo B - O Mon and Ca Voi Xanh, as critical resources for the nation's domestic gas and power industries.

Exploration efforts included the completion of the Ken Bau-2X well in July 2020 at a depth of approximately 3,690 meters. This discovery provides significant geological data and enhances the prospects for further offshore oil and gas exploration in the Red River Basin.
