Ken Daito promotes Japanese action cinema through unique power-style approach

Ken Daito, an action actor, director, and action choreographer, is working to expand the reach of Japanese action cinema internationally. Daito utilizes his background as a former Japanese arm wrestling champion to develop a unique style he calls ‘power-style action,’ which integrates physical strength with martial arts such as Shaolin Kempo, Nihon Kempo, and full-contact karate.

Daito’s recent work includes the film ‘Unso Dragon: Powered Human Battle Courier,’ which he directed and starred in. The film blends action, comedy, and science fiction elements while addressing contemporary social issues. Following domestic screenings and festival appearances, the film is scheduled for international expansion, with planned screenings in Bali, Indonesia, and Vietnam, as well as upcoming streaming releases on platforms like U-NEXT and Amazon Prime.

In addition to his directorial work, Daito has appeared in the film ‘Dream Story: Dragon in Wonderland’ starring Yasuo Kurata. By combining his roles as a performer and a creator, Daito aims to establish a distinct brand of Japanese action expression for global audiences.
