Ken Griffin warns Americans that French social unrest reflects socialist failings

Citadel CEO Ken Griffin has issued a warning to young Americans, citing recent social unrest and riots in France as a cautionary tale against socialist policies. Speaking at the Future of Global Markets Conference, Griffin described France as a ‘socialist dream’ where government spending accounts for 60% of the GDP, yet the streets remain ‘awash in turmoil.’

Griffin compared the chaos in Paris to his experiences in Chicago during 2021 and 2022, stating that the French model represents a ‘nightmare’ rather than a utopia. He argued that a society focused on redistribution and how much individuals can take from others eventually leads to the loss of both property and personal rights.

When asked about political figures following a similar path, Griffin identified Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker as a candidate whose direction he finds concerning.
