Ken Kutaragi predicts the potential end of the gaming console era

Ken Kutaragi, the creator of the original PlayStation and current CEO of Cyber AI Entertainment, suggests that the era of dedicated gaming consoles may be coming to an end. Kutaragi noted that hardware costs for both consoles and gaming PCs have become prohibitively expensive, describing the current pricing situation as “not healthy.”

He posits that the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence and cloud computing could eliminate the need for specialized hardware. Kutaragi suggests that as AI systems like Google Gemini operate via servers and networks, high-end gaming experiences could eventually be delivered through the cloud, requiring only a controller and a screen rather than an expensive physical device.

While Kutaragi has long predicted that gaming would eventually integrate into the network, he emphasized that these views are his personal professional assessments and do not necessarily represent the official stance of Sony.
