Ken Russell’s ‘The Devils’ 4K restoration to receive theatrical release
Warner Bros. Clockwork has announced a 4K restoration and theatrical re-release of Ken Russell’s film, ‘The Devils’. The restoration, assembled from the original camera negative, aims to present the director’s definitive vision by referencing an edit Russell privately constructed in 2004.
This release marks the first NC-17 rated film in Warner Bros. history. The film is scheduled for an exclusive one-week theatrical run in North America starting October 16, with a UK release following on October 30. The restoration has been praised by filmmaker Guillermo del Toro, who described the scale of the work as “insane” and “epic.”
Set in 17th-century France, the film stars Vanessa Redgrave and Oliver Reed. It follows the story of Father Grandier, whose life is upended by accusations of witchcraft and religious corruption.
