Kencho-ji temple to host neurotechnology-infused Zen art event

VIE will host ‘VIE presents ZEN NIGHT Kamakura’ at the historic Kencho-ji temple in Kamakura, Kanagawa Prefecture, from October 29 to December 6, 2026. The event aims to fuse traditional Zen culture with modern neurotechnology through immersive sound and light art.

Key features include the use of VIE’s patented ‘NeuroMusic™’ technology to create sensory environments. Highlights include a ‘sea of clouds’ installation in the Hojo garden, light displays at the Karamon gate, and a specialized ‘Brainwave Zazen’ experience. In the latter, participants wear EEG devices to measure brain activity while meditating, visualizing their mental states through real-time digital audio and imagery.

The event is part of the commemorative activities leading up to the 750th anniversary of the passing of the temple’s founder, Daikaku Zenji, and is supported by the Agency for Cultural Affairs’ ‘Next Nippon Hakubaku’ project.
