Kendrick Lamar wins 2026 BMI R&B/Hip-Hop Songwriter of the Year
Kendrick Lamar has been named the 2026 R&B/Hip-Hop Songwriter of the Year by the music publishing organization BMI. The announcement was made during the BMI R&B/Hip-Hop Awards held in Los Angeles on August 26.
Lamar received the honor for co-writing six of the previous year's most-performed songs. These include tracks from his 2024 album GNX, such as 'Luther', 'Hey Now', 'Peekaboo', 'Squabble Up', and 'tv off', as well as '30 for 30' from SZA's SOS deluxe.
In addition to the songwriter title, Lamar won the BMI R&B/Hip-Hop Song of the Year for 'Luther', a collaboration with SZA and several other credited writers. Other major honors at the ceremony included the BMI Icon Award presented to Nas, Producer of the Year awarded to O Lil Angel, and Publisher of the Year awarded to Sony Music Publishing.
