KenGen employee jailed for 11 years over certificate forgery
A former Kenya Electricity Generating Company Limited (KenGen) employee, David Mogire Nyabuti, has been sentenced to 11 years in prison for employment fraud and forgery. The Anti-Corruption Court found that Nyabuti used a forged KCSE certificate to secure a position as a Craft Grade III employee in August 2003.
During his tenure, which lasted until his resignation in September 2018, Nyabuti unlawfully obtained over KSh14.9 million in salaries and benefits. He was also convicted of fraudulently obtaining a disability certificate to receive tax exemptions between 2014 and 2018.
In addition to the prison term, Senior Principal Magistrate C. Okore ordered Nyabuti to pay KSh14,946,118 in compensation. He was also issued several fines related to the uttering of false documents.
