Keningau, Sabah hit by 3.4-magnitude earthquake

A weak 3.4-magnitude earthquake struck the Keningau district in Sabah, Malaysia, at 9:31 am on September 3. The Malaysian Meteorological Department (METMalaysia) reported the tremor occurred at a depth of 10 kilometers, with the epicentre located approximately 10 km west of Keningau.

Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Datuk Seri Arthur Joseph Kurup stated that the event was a release of local tectonic energy. METMalaysia received hundreds of reports from members of the public who felt the tremors. The minister advised the public not to panic, noting that the earthquake was of low magnitude and posed no tsunami threat.

The Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department conducted inspections of several key locations in Keningau, including the district police headquarters and local health offices. No structural damage, fires, or injuries were reported following the incident.
