Kennebunk Fire Rescue issues safety warning after child wanders from beach

Kennebunk Fire Rescue has issued a public safety warning following an incident at Mother’s Beach in Kennebunk, where a child wandered away from their caregiver and into a different beach area.

While a search was launched and the child was successfully reunited with their caregiver, emergency responders noted that the caregiver returned to using their phone almost immediately after the incident. In response, fire officials released a directive to parents and caregivers: “Phones down. Eyes up.” Officials emphasized that while lifeguards monitor swimming areas, they cannot replace the necessity of adult supervision, particularly regarding the distractions caused by mobile devices near water.
