Kennedy Boboye cleared to return as Bendel Insurance coach
The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has lifted the suspension of Bendel Insurance head coach Kennedy Boboye, allowing him to return to the dugout for the 2026/27 season.
Boboye was originally handed a 17-match ban following allegations of gross misconduct toward a match official during a match against Plateau United last season. The NPFL board decided to suspend the remaining portion of his sanction after reviewing Boboye's written apology, his appeal for leniency, and his conduct during the suspension period.
The board also cited Boboye's previous contributions to Nigerian football as a player and technical team member as factors in their decision. However, the league issued a warning: if Boboye engages in similar misconduct during the upcoming season, the remaining portion of his punishment will be reinstated. Boboye is expected to resume his role starting with the season opener against Warri Wolves on August 30.
