Kennedy Center Removes Trump Name from Facade

A U.S. district judge ruled that the Kennedy Center’s board lacked authority to add President Donald Trump’s name to the venue and ordered its removal. On the night of June 13, a crew took down the letters spelling “The Donald J. Trump” from the marble façade. Activist group Hands Off the Arts supplied photographs taken through gaps in the covering tarp that show the blank panels where the name once appeared. Co‑founder Mallory Miller said, “The president does not want you to see them, and that’s exactly why they’re important.”

Although the signage was removed, scaffolding and a large tarp remain in place, with center officials citing ongoing maintenance of the marble and soffit panels. The center continues to face financial pressures and has asked a federal court for more time to comply with renovation deadlines. The legal dispute originated from Rep. Joyce Beatty’s lawsuit, which argued only Congress can rename the John F. Kennedy Center.

The removal marks the latest enforcement of the court order, while the visible tarp has become a focal point for protestors and street‑artist projections across Washington, D.C.
