Kennedy Center faces funding dispute over Trump memorial request

A dispute has emerged regarding the funding and operation of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C. President Donald Trump has indicated that federal funds for necessary structural repairs will be withheld unless the building’s facade is inscribed with his name and words of gratitude.

A federal court ruling has currently blocked the Kennedy Center board from installing such a memorial. Judge Christopher Cooper ruled that the board cannot install memorials for the President or any other entity without explicit authorization from Congress.

Trump has vowed to appeal this decision, potentially taking the matter to the U.S. Supreme Court. While the center faces serious structural damage, there is debate over whether the facility can remain open during renovations or if it must close entirely, as suggested by the President and his appointed board.
