Kennedy Center whistleblowers allege delayed structural repairs

Former employees of the Kennedy Center have submitted a letter to Congress alleging that officials deliberately postponed critical roof repairs despite being aware of structural issues. The whistleblowers, represented by attorney David Seide, claim that Executive Director Matt Floca halted a funded remediation plan in April, even though Congress had previously earmarked $257 million for building repairs.

The center recently underwent a temporary closure following a partial ceiling collapse and a deteriorating roof terrace canopy. While Floca maintains that recent investigations revealed new, acute risks to public safety, the whistleblowers argue these issues were known for over a year and were not treated as priorities.

The situation is unfolding amid political tension, as President Donald Trump, who chairs the center's board, has advocated for a longer closure and a major renovation. This follows a federal court ruling that ordered the removal of the President's name from the building's facade.
