Donald Trump’s name stripped from Washington’s Kennedy Center
The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington removed former President Donald Trump’s name and image from its façade after a federal court ordered the reversal of a 2025 renaming. The center’s website and official documents also eliminated references such as “Trump Kennedy Center” and “Donald J. Trump and John F. Kennedy Memorial Center for the Performing Arts.”
The court action followed a lawsuit filed by a Democratic lawmaker, and an appellate court upheld the decision. The removal sparked protests from artists who cancelled performances, while Trump publicly expressed extreme anger over the ruling. The episode follows Trump’s earlier 2025 takeover of the center, during which he dismissed board members, assumed the chairmanship and appointed ally Richard Grenell to reshape the institution.
