Kennedy family disputes use of Hyannis Port compound for private party

Ted Kennedy Jr. has expressed outrage following reports that the historic Kennedy family compound in Hyannis Port was used to host a private birthday celebration for former Tyco CEO Dennis Kozlowski and his wife, Kimberly.

The event, billed as ‘An Evening in Camelot,’ was organized to celebrate the joint birthdays of the couple. Dennis Kozlowski previously served time in prison following a 2005 conviction related to a $134 million fraud scheme.

Ted Kennedy Jr. criticized the Edward M. Kennedy Institute, which holds ownership of the property, for allowing the rental. He stated that the use of the ancestral home for private parties is ‘completely inconsistent’ with his father’s vision of the site as an educational center and living museum intended for historians, students, and policymakers.

The property was donated to the Institute in 2012 by Vicki Kennedy to fulfill the wishes of the late Senator Edward M. Kennedy. While the Institute had previously stated the home was not for rent to private individuals, the recent hosting of the event has sparked controversy regarding the management of the estate.
