NASA Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope launch scheduled for August 30

NASA and SpaceX are preparing for the launch of the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope, scheduled for no earlier than 7:26 a.m. EDT on Sunday, August 30. The mission will launch from Launch Complex 39A at the Kennedy Space Center aboard a SpaceX Falcon Heavy rocket.

To ensure mission readiness, teams recently completed a full end-to-end mission dress rehearsal. This simulation included powering up the spacecraft, practicing fueling operations for the Falcon Heavy, conducting mock weather briefings, and testing communication and mission systems across NASA and SpaceX facilities.

The Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope is designed to study dark energy, exoplanets, and infrared astrophysics. It features a field of view at least 100 times larger than that of the Hubble Space Telescope, allowing for wide-field surveys to investigate the structure and evolution of the universe.

For the public, the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex will offer special viewing opportunities. The observation area will open at 5:30 a.m., and access is included with regular admission. Visitors will be able to watch the launch from the ground and access a live broadcast featuring technical commentary from experts.
