Kenneth Branagh recalls nights with Harry Potter cast

Actor Kenneth Branagh has shared recollections of his time filming the Harry Potter franchise, specifically describing a memorable night spent with veteran cast members at a hotel near Cheltenham. During an appearance at the Edinburgh International Film Festival, Branagh described the gathering as one of the most “privileged and daft” nights of his life.

Branagh, who played Gilderoy Lockhart in “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets,” noted that the group included acting greats such as Richard Harris, Alan Rickman, Maggie Smith, Miriam Margolyes, and David Bradley. He remarked on the “massive weight of experience” present at the table while they shared stories.

Reflecting on the scale of the production, Branagh noted that while he initially expected to film for only a few weeks, the project lasted nine months. He also expressed amazement at the logistical coordination required to balance the filming schedule with the schoolwork of the young lead actors, such as Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint.
