Kenneth Law faces sentencing for aiding suicides via online poison sales
Kenneth Law, a former chef from Ontario, is facing sentencing hearings in Newmarket after pleading guilty to 14 counts of aiding and counselling suicide. Law operated several websites and online forums where he met vulnerable individuals and sold lethal substances, including sodium nitrite, to recipients in more than 40 countries.
During the proceedings, the court is hearing from dozens of victims' families through impact statements. While Law's Canadian charges are limited to 14 deaths in Ontario, the court is also considering the impact of approximately 79 deaths in the United Kingdom that have been linked to the products he supplied.
Although Canadian prosecutors dropped murder charges against Law, legal experts suggest he could face a sentence of up to 20 years. The UK Crown Prosecution Service agreed to a plea deal on the condition that the Canadian sentence accounts for the British deaths.
