Kenneth Okonkwo criticizes Peter Obi and the Obidient Movement

Kenneth Okonkwo, a former spokesperson for Peter Obi’s 2023 presidential campaign, has criticized the branding and political strategy of the former Anambra State governor. Speaking on the Selah Meditate Podcast, Okonkwo argued that the ‘Obidient Movement’ should not have been named after Obi, as it tied the movement’s fate to his personal reputation. He described the movement as an organic emergence of young Nigerians seeking political change that predated any specific individual.

Okonkwo further stated that Obi missed a unique opportunity to achieve greatness. He noted that Nigerians were unusually willing to support Obi without the typical political struggles, but suggested that Obi failed to make the necessary sacrifices required to secure and maintain that political momentum.

In a broader assessment of Nigerian leaders, Okonkwo described Atiku Abubakar as a ‘benevolent and humane leader’ driven by a desire to serve the nation, while characterizing President Bola Tinubu as a ‘good leader’.
