Kenneth Tencio reaches BMX Freestyle World Cup semifinals
Costa Rican cyclist Kenneth Tencio Esquivel reached the semifinals of the 2026 UCI BMX Freestyle World Cup in Birmingham, Alabama. Competing against 60 participants, Tencio finished in 23rd place, securing a spot among the top 24 riders but failing to advance to the final round.
This performance allows Tencio to continue accumulating points for the world ranking, where he currently holds 10th place. Maintaining a high ranking is a key component of his strategy to qualify for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games. This follows a previous seventh-place finish at the first stop of the season in Montpellier, France.
The 2026 World Cup calendar includes four events. Following the stops in Montpellier and Birmingham, the third competition is scheduled to take place in Shanghai, China, from October 15 to 18. The final event is set for late November, though the location has yet to be confirmed.
