Kenneth Williams Sr. killed in Gary police shooting

Kenneth Williams Sr., a 67-year-old armed security guard, was fatally shot by police on August 28 at the Metro Center transit station in Gary, Indiana. The incident occurred following reports that Williams was displaying “unusual and erratic behavior.”

According to Indiana State Police, nine officers discharged their weapons during the exchange of gunfire, which took place around 11:20 p.m. Six officers were from the Gary Police Department and three were from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office. No officers were injured in the encounter.

The Indiana State Police are investigating the officer-involved shooting. All officers involved have been placed on administrative leave. Williams’ family is seeking a clear explanation of the events leading up to the gunfire.
