Kent apple harvest begins earlier than average
The apple harvest in Kent, England, has commenced earlier than usual. While fruit maturity has been difficult to predict, growers report that the harvest is largely under control.
Earlier frost and hail have impacted some orchards, causing skin marking and affecting fruit sizing. However, the eating quality remains high, with reports of excellent flavor and brix levels. Yields have also been affected by the weather, with some small fruit expected to be discarded.
Currently, varieties such as Kanzi, Jazz, and Braeburn are being harvested, with Pink Lady expected to follow within the next 7 to 10 days.
