Kent Robin Tönnesen avoids blindness after severe illness

Handball professional Kent Robin Tönnesen of SG Flensburg-Handewitt has avoided blindness after a severe bout of shingles during a summer vacation in Croatia. The Norwegian player, who plays in the Opel Handball-Bundesliga, experienced intense pain around his right eye, prompting his medical team to urge his immediate return to Germany.

The viral infection posed a significant risk to his eyesight, requiring several weeks of medical therapy and a ban from sports. Tönnesen has since begun a gradual return to training, though it remains uncertain if he will be ready for the upcoming match against HC Hamburg.
