Kentucky adopts Common App for statewide college applications
The Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education has approved the use of Common App as the statewide platform for college applications. This decision fulfills the requirements of House Bill 307, also known as the My Kentucky Future Act, which mandates the establishment of a common online application for students applying to Kentucky's public postsecondary institutions.
Common App is a national non-profit organization that is already utilized by Kentucky students; last year, over 9,500 applicants submitted 65,000 applications to member institutions via the platform. The service is free for students and includes features such as a mobile app, 24/7 support, and connections to scholarship opportunities.
CPE President Aaron Thompson stated that the initiative aims to remove barriers to higher education and support the state’s ‘60x30 attainment goal.’ The Common App link will be integrated into Futuriti.org, a site providing Kentucky-specific career and education resources. Additionally, the Council approved new academic programs at the University of Kentucky, including degrees in Creative Writing.
