Kentucky babysitter arrested in fatal abuse of 11-month-old

Elijah Mayes, 19, has been arrested following the fatal abuse of 11-month-old Grayson Walton in Cleaton, Kentucky. The infant's body was discovered on September 13, concealed inside a couch in the home where Mayes was babysitting.

Authorities report that Mayes attempted to fabricate an alibi by claiming a family friend had picked up the child. Police allege Mayes used a fake phone number to send himself text messages to support this story, but the individual named in the messages denied involvement. During the investigation, police also discovered a stash of methamphetamine allegedly belonging to Mayes.

Mayes faces multiple charges, including murder, abuse of a corpse, criminal abuse, and methamphetamine possession. Additionally, the child's step-grandfather was arrested and charged with tampering with physical evidence.
