Kentucky bans campaign signs from state highway rights-of-way

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) has issued a reminder that it is illegal to place campaign, business, or yard sale signs on state highway rights-of-way. With an election approaching in less than a month, officials noted an increase in complaints regarding unauthorized signs.

According to the KYTC, these encroachments interfere with motorist sight distances and obstruct maintenance operations, such as mowing, posing risks to both drivers and work crews. The prohibition extends to signs attached to utility poles, stop signs, road signs, fences, and guardrails.

Unauthorized signs that obstruct vision or interfere with maintenance will be removed. Larger signs will be held at the applicable county state highway garage for two weeks, while smaller signs may be discarded.
